Is pond lighting safe?
Yes - when installed correctly. We use low-voltage (12V) submersible LED lights and ensure all above-water wiring meets BS7671 outdoor electrical standards. Properly installed pond lighting is completely safe for fish, wildlife and people.
Can you add lighting to an existing pond?
Absolutely. Retrofitting lighting to an existing pond is one of our most popular services. We assess your pond layout and recommend the best positions for lights to achieve the most dramatic and natural-looking effect.
What type of pond lights are best?
We recommend submersible low-voltage LED spotlights for underwater illumination, and weatherproof LED uplighters for feature rocks and planting. LED technology uses a fraction of the energy of older halogen systems and lasts many times longer.
How much does pond lighting installation cost?
Pond lighting costs depend on the number of lights, wiring complexity and whether you want colour-changing capability. A basic scheme with 4–6 lights typically starts from around £400 installed. We provide a detailed quote after a free site visit.
Do pond lights need a lot of maintenance?
LED pond lights require very little maintenance. The main tasks are periodically cleaning lens covers to remove algae, checking cable glands and connectors for any water ingress, and replacing any failed units. Modern LED fittings can last 10,000+ hours. We include a lighting check during any regular pond service visit.
Can pond lighting be used year-round?
Yes - quality submersible LED lights are rated for continuous operation in all UK weather conditions year-round. Pond lighting is particularly effective in the autumn and winter months when evenings are long and the garden is otherwise quiet, creating a stunning display even from inside the house.
What is the difference between colour-changing and white pond lights?
White (or warm white) LED lights give a natural, elegant appearance - ideal for showcasing fish, planting and rockwork. Colour-changing RGB lights allow you to create a more dramatic effect, with different colours for different occasions. We can install either or both, and connect them to a remote control or timer for convenience.
